FOCUS: Improve well test for accuracy and capacity
OPPORTUNITY OR PROBLEM
A major oil exploration and drilling company realized that improvements to their periodic well test process were required to increase test accuracy and overall test capacity.
APPROACH TAKEN
A Lean Six Sigma improvement team was formed to analyze the process and implement appropriate changes. The team identified potential improvements to improve test accuracy and efficiency. Several lean approaches were utilized. As a result of their efforts:
– Test accuracy was increased by 25%.
– The capacity for the number of tests per month was increased by 423
OUTCOME
Significant annualized ROI benefits were realized, including $400,000 in better well work decisions and $100,000 in the value of extra test capacity.
