Design for Six Sigma Certification Overview

Air Academy is excited to introduce a new way of learning the Six Sigma tools and methodologies of Design for Six Sigma: virtual instructor-led training. While we believe in-person, instructor-led learning is the most effective approach; we understand that circumstances may not always allow classroom learning. That’s why we offer the flexibility and convenience of virtual training while still maintaining our renowned Keep-It-Simple-Statistically (KISS) approach to instruction.

By completing these virtual modules, you will gain the skills and knowledge needed to lead a DFSS project or study that improves customer satisfaction, drives business growth, and achieves breakthrough improvements. Whether new to DFSS or looking to expand your existing skills, our virtual training program has something for everyone.

There will be a 5-question quiz at the end of each session to test your grasp of the subject covered. To obtain module credit, you must successfully answer at least 4 out of 5 quiz questions. If you do not get a passing score on the first try, you will be able to retry the quiz until you do.

Voice of the Customer

This session covers the “voice of the customer” (VOC) concept, which refers to the customer’s needs, wants, and expectations. The session may also cover Kanos Model and techniques for gathering and analyzing the VOC.

Introduction to Quality Function Deployment (QFD)

This session introduces the concept of QFD, a methodology for translating customer requirements into design specifications.

Concept Generation and Selection

This session may cover techniques for generating and selecting design concepts, including Function Analysis, FAST, Morphological Mapping, TRIZ, and Axiomatic Design.

Detailed Design (HOQ2)

This session may cover moving from the first House of Quality (HOQ1) to the second House of Quality (HOQ2) and tips for constructing and prioritizing design parameters in HOQ2.

Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)

This session may cover the concept of FMEA, a tool used to identify potential failures in a design and assess their impact. The session may include information on different types of FMEAs and approaches for analyzing risk using the Risk Priority Number (RPN). Before a build or test run, a Process FMEA is frequently carried out to assess the risk involved in the process and address any issues. A prototype or pilot build is typically carried out.

Expected Value Analysis (EVA)

This session covers the concept of EVA, a method for evaluating the expected value of different design options based on probability distributions.

Robust Design

This session covers robust design, a design approach that minimizes the impact of variability and noise factors on a product or existing processes. The session may include strategies for full creation and analysis using DOE and optimization techniques.
